It's hard to believe this journey we started in 2015 is finally coming to an end! We're so excited to finally get the movie into the hands of you, the Backers, and sincerely hope you're as proud of it as we are! I could not be happier with the response from the press here in the US, including being a coveted Critics Pick in the New York Times! And there's only more to come as we expand out to the rest of the world. Here's one of my favorite reviews; five stars in Mojo from the legendary David Fricke.
You've waited patiently and we're now ready to announce we'll be sending out the digital and physical Kickstarter copies of the movie starting March 2, 2021.
To be clear, this date is for the Kickstarter exclusive copy of the movie you pledged for! These are not for sale publicly and contain exclusive bonus material not included in any publicly available version.
Here are a few details to keep in mind in the meantime:
- If you pledged for a digital copy of the movie it will be delivered via email on March 2nd.
- If you pledged for DVDs and Blu-Rays, shipping will start March 2nd and you'll receive an automated email informing you of the shipment when it's on the way. This includes backers who added this reward later.
- We will not be selling any more copies or adding to existing pledges while we're fulfilling pledges from the original campaign
- We will be emailing address confirmations for this final reward so keep an eye out for that!
For everyone else, the movie will be released to purchase for digital, DVD and Blu-Ray in the US in early March and you can pre-order now from many outlets including here. For those of you outside the US, the roll out is starting in theaters and digitally beginning in February in certain territories. We will have all of those specifics soon and will post on the Zappa Facebook page so check there! And you can always follow what me and the Trouper team are up to next over at my website too!
Hopefully some of you got in on the amazing aftermarket posters and the Zappa soundtrack box set. I love this poster below that was created by Mondo. It's sold out but maybe they'll do another run if we all ask nicely, and a few of the Zappa monster movie posters are still left!
I can't thank all of you enough. Your commitment to preserving the vault is what got a very difficult and important job done, and beyond saving this material for posterity, it allowed us to make our film and expand the awareness of Zappa's incredible life and music to an even broader audience.
